OEMs
Original Equipment Manufactures, or OEMs, face many challenges when it comes to the lifecycle of their products. In the electronics industry, product lifecycle management has become a particularly pressing issue. The proliferation of consumer electronics, rapid advancements in technology, and product obsolescence have brought quite a bit of attention and scrutiny to what is considered the fastest-growing waste stream in the world - electronic waste. But who is responsible for managing these products at the end of their useful lives?
There is no national policy for electronics recycling, but many States have enacted Extended Producer Responsibility laws (EPR) which hold manufacturers responsible for recycling or disposing of obsolete electronics in an environmentally sound manner. Each State program is different, but they all employ the same basic concept - manufacturers must bear the financial burden of recycling obsolete electronics in proportion to the amount of new electronics they sell into the market.
ECS Refining provides a turnkey solution for OEMs' recycling obligations in EPR States. This solution includes a vast network of e-waste collectors, state-of-the-art electronics recycling facilities across the country, and robust reporting capabilities. ECS Refining has experience and expertise in fulfilling EPR obligations and understands the complexities of each individual State program. ECS Refining is registered as an approved recycler for all State programs and also holds e-Stewards and R2 certifications at its recycling facilities.
